Module 4: Values and Responsible Citizenship

Good health and adequate nourishment are prerequisites for children and adolescents to continue their learning process efficiently. With these principles in mind, the Ministry of Education (MoE), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), launched the School Health Programme in February 2020 with the aim to raise awareness on the health and well-being of school going children. In parallel, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) developed a curriculum framework which focuses on enhancing life skills to promote responsible and healthy behaviours among children from upper primary to senior secondary stage. The recently launched National Education Policy 2020 has also highlighted the need for innovative teaching and learning. In this regard, NCERT, in partnership with UNESCO New Delhi, developed 11 animated videos in English and Hindi focusing on the 11 themes of the School health programme: Growing up Healthy; Emotional Well Being and Mental Health; Interpersonal Relationships; Values and Citizenship;  Gender Equality;  Nutrition, health and Sanitation;  Prevention and Management of Substance Misuse; Promotion of Healthy Life Style;  Reproductive Healthy and HIV Prevention;  Safety and Security against Violence and Injuries and;  Promotion of Safe use of internet and social media behaviours.

"The animated videos match the aspirations of the New Education Policy of India and we hope the students and teachers will benefit from it."

Eric Falt, UNESCO New Delhi Director

"The Ministry of Education fully supports the initiative taken by NCERT and UNESCO New Delhi. These animated videos are very informative and will make the learning process for all students more fun and interesting. The videos will also be useful in enabling teachers to be more aware and effectively respond to the health and well-being needs of learners."

Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Hon'ble Minister of Education

"..health and well- being of our students is of utmost importance. NCERT is committed to foster the growth, development and educational achievement of school going children by promoting health and wellbeing. These animated videos as well as the training and resource materials developed by NCERT and UNESCO will help in raising awareness among millions of children and teachers across the country."
